Captain Francesco Schettino of The Cruise Ship Cost Concordia

Captain Francesco Schettino of the cruise ship Costa Concordia has received a lot of criticism for how he has handled things when the ship he was in charge of ran aground. The media has branded him with the name  "Captain Coward" because he would not get back on the ship to facilitate the evacuation, and his reason for leaving the ship in the first place was "he fell into a lifeboat." There are a couple of scriptures that speak directly to this situation.

Proverbs 24:10
If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!

Proverbs 20:11
Even small children are known by their actions, so is their conduct really pure and upright?

Proverbs 25:19
Like a broken tooth or a lame foot is reliance on the unfaithful in a time of trouble.

Proverbs 11:3
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Proverbs 19:3
A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the LORD.

Romney and Santorum In Iowa Primary

Romney, the press, and everyone else was certain that he had won in Iowa. They moved right along with that assumption, until the final count determined that Santorum had actually won in Iowa. Both The Bible and Yogi Berra have some wisdom to offer.

Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over till it's over."

Proverbs 18:17
The first one to tell his case seems right. Then someone else comes forward and questions him.

Proverbs 25:8
do not bring hastily to court, for what will you do in the end if your neighbor puts you to shame?

Dealing With Stress

Ecclesiastes 9:11-12
I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the
battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. Moreover, no
one knows when their hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds
are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly
upon them.

Romans 5:3-4
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering
produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Proverbs 3:21-
My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound
judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.
Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you
lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have
no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the LORD will
be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

Politics

I personally believe that Republicans and Democrats are to blame for the things that
plague our country.  There is so much money to be made in Washington DC it is nearly
impossible to have a government that is not corrupt.

Proverbs 29:4
The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

How many politicians absolutely DO NOT receive "gifts" for their vote?

Whenever the majority of the people are angry at the current government, they look
for someone new.

1 Samuel 8:4-5

So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said
to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to
lead us, such as all the other nations have.”

Proverbs 29:2
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth
rule, the people mourn.

Have you heard very many voices complaining about the way the government has been
doing things?
